The learner’s challenge
At SpeakDuo, I work on language-learning features across the backend and web app. These examples describe selected contributions from my merged work, covering AI chat, learning content, personal practice, and group activities.
AI chatbot
I developed Ash’s AI chat feature across the backend and web app, including conversation history, streamed replies, and controls for managing discussions. I also worked on helping the assistant recommend learning features that actually exist on the platform.
Generative AI learning content
I extended AI lesson generation with multilingual support and worked on generated stories, dialogues, and grammar exercises. This included improving examples so they make sense on their own and helping learners practice words and expressions in context.
Vocabulary and reading tools
I built vocabulary tracking and review features, including saved words, translation history, and word-meaning lookup. I also worked on reading experiences with generated stories and imported articles, alongside word-completion exercises and grammar quizzes.
Personal practice
I implemented phrase review with scheduled repetition and contributed to the personal grammar archive. Learners can revisit correction examples, save practice, resume unfinished sessions, and review their progress.
AI interview voice agent and feedback
I worked on multilingual support for the AI interview voice agent and on grammar and pronunciation feedback. I also improved live caption processing and adjusted language feedback to better distinguish everyday spoken expressions from genuine mistakes.
Interactive group activities
I implemented learning activities including trivia, Missing Word, Word Connect, and preference polls. My contributions covered activity features, host controls, and learner interactions that support practicing together during sessions.
My contribution
My contributions span Python backend services, React web interfaces, integration, tests, and fixes to existing behavior. I worked within the team’s product and engineering conventions, responding to review and checking feature behavior.
